Dr. Kevin L. Brown is a gifted, inspiring, teacher, preacher, and motivational speaker. He has spoken to audiences across America and West Africa about their spiritual and social responsibilities. He has a great passion for the growth and development of community with a keen interest in positively shaping the lives of young men and women.
Dr. Brown and his siblings attended thirteen different elementary and secondary schools in seven different states while growing up. His father, Mr. Jesse L. Brown, was a career Army Major. His mother, Mrs. Geraldine Brown was a school teacher. Both of his parents are graduates of the Historically Black College - North Carolina A&T. It was during his childhood years that Dr. Brown learned how to communicate effectively with people. He says, “You either learned how to communicate or lived a very lonely life – since we moved around so much!”
Dr. Brown’s parents instilled within him a love for God and country. They also gave him a great value and love for education, and the sense that he could achieve any goal he set for himself. He became both a student and an athlete. He graduated from Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with honors and was awarded an athletic scholarship to Northwestern University. After four years, Dr. Brown earned a B.A. from Northwestern University and was drafted into the National Football League by the Los Angeles Rams.
Following a brief stay with the Rams, Dr. Brown began a career in education holding senior administrative positions at the Pennsylvania State University, Pomona College, Carleton College, Virginia Military Institute, Lawrenceville School, and the Sacramento City Unified School District. Later, he befriended former National Basketball Association All-Star Kevin Johnson, and became the first Head Master of Johnson’s St. HOPE Academy. Currently, Dr. Brown is the President of The Urban Renaissance Project, an educational consulting and mediation firm located in Sacramento, California.
Dr. Brown earned his Master of Arts degree at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, and his Juris Doctorate degree at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. A lover of learning, he has received numerous academic fellowships and awards. He is also the author of the best selling “Parent Guide to Public School Success – The Common Sense Approach to Helping Your Child.”
Dr. Brown is also an Associate Minister at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Sacramento, California. He is married to his best friend and business partner - Cheryl Ann - and claims a host of adopted children as his own.
